100th Day, Place Value, Read to Someone and I Have Who Has?

We celebrated the 100th day of school on Tuesday.  The kids were so excited.  For the 100th day, we dress up like we are 100 years old.  The kids always look so cute and they play the part well.  I had one that just made me laugh because when we were in reading groups, I said spoons in the bowl and in an old lady voice she said, "Where's my bowl?"  I couldn't help myself from laughing!  Here they are:

I told them that we couldn't do our normal Gonoodle since we were 100 years old, so instead we did a chair exercise break!  :-)

This week, we have been working on place value and being able to find the number in the ones place and the tens place.  After going over it, we played a game called swat it.  I had the students think of a 2 digit number and write it on their desks (I love it because we have desks that we can write on with dry erase markers).  Once they wrote the number on their desk, I played a place value song and they walked around like musical chairs.  When the music stopped they found a desk and I called out either ones or tens place and they had to swat the number in that place.  If they got it right, then they stayed in the game and if they got it wrong, they had to sit out.  It was a lot of fun and a fun way to practice place value.

I have to say that these 1st graders are rockin in read to someone in Daily 5.  I was able to snap a couple of pictures of some of them!

In small groups, we have been playing some of our I Have Who Has Games.  Every time I get them out, the kids say "Oh, I love this game!"  I love it because they love it and they are having fun and learning at the same time.  We have been practicing and then timing our game and trying to see if they can beat their score each day.

100th Day of School!!

Today was the 100th day of school and we had the kids dress up like they were 100 years old.  They were so excited to do this and they looked adorable.  My co-teacher and I also dressed up like we were 100 years old as well (I sure felt like I was 100 years old after the day LOL!) .  Throughout the day, I pretended to forget what I was doing, pretended to be asleep, called the kids by a different name (pretending to forget their names) and many other things. 

 The kids were so funny because they would tell me not to fall asleep and would continue to remind me what we were doing.  Some of them even wrote in their journals about me.  I think they may have been a bit concerned-LOL!  One said that I was having a hard time remembering things because I was 100 years old and that they were having to remind me of many things.  It was a fun filled day.  Check out how cute they were:

We usually take brain breaks by using gonoodle, but I told them today that we couldn't do that because I didn't want them to get hurt.  So, I found a chair aerobics video on youtube that they did instead.   Here they are:

100th Day

Last week, we celebrated the 100th day of school!  The kids were so excited because we were dressing up like we were 100 years old!  They looked so cute and it was so funny how they got into playing the role of a 100 year old.  They even were walking like they were 100 years old.  During math they were working as a group and one said, "Oh, this is going to be a hard one, I better get my glasses for this one so I can see the problem better."  LOL!  We usually do some Go noodle during the day but I told them that we wouldn't be able to handle it but would do something else.  My co-teacher found some silver shoes exercises on YouTube that we did in our chairs.  We had so much fun and they looked so cute!  Check them out!

Here they were acting like they were 100 years old.

You might remember my block art in my dining room from this post. I *loved* it!

 

Well, right behind that wall we are adding a second bathroom and hubby was doing some work in there...can you guess what happened?

 

Yep, the blocks fell down...

 

No big deal, right?

 

Well, I had never put a sealer over the modge podge. I picked them up and stacked them. BIG mistake. They stuck together and when I tried to separate them... Let's just say, it wasn't pretty. :-(

 

The good news...it was much easier this time around! I followed my tips in my first post and ta-da:

I was so happy to find my favorite scrapbooking paper again...was worried I wouldn't be able to replace this one!

100th Day

Hubby laughed when I told him reading 100 books was one of my plans for the 100th day of school. He didn't think my kiddos would be too excited. I assured him kids will be excited about anything if the teacher is excited and makes it sound like the BEST thing EVER! ;-)

 

The idea was inspired by this pin and as expected my kids had a blast! They blew past 100 books and ended with a whopping 217!!!



Notice I'm also playing around with the Aviary photography app...what fun! My kids read a lot of little decodables--and I let them put a tally mark for every chapter read (if they were reading a chapter book).

 

We also borrowed this idea. My favorite "I wish I had..." is in the smiley face - BOOKS! :-)

Now for the "I would not want 100..."

Star - KIDS, funny because I really wanted to write that I would not want 100 students!

Green Circle - BOOKS, my least favorite...unfortunately I have not won them all over. :-( 

Heart - "Boys in my class" - LOL! My favorite! After she wrote this one, a boy wrote "Girls in my class" a little above it.

Blue Arrow - Mrs. R!!!! Are you kidding me? This kid is pretty funny. According to him, 100 Mrs. R's would give way to much work. Ha!

Subtraction with Regrouping

Found this great freebie on TPT for regrouping. Love the sheet that broke it down to just having the students practice the regrouping part (top number)...actually used that one today with a few of my strugglers. Check it out!

Basketball...

Basketball has been keeping me pretty busy!

It is winding down for us though...tourney started Saturday. Both my kids play (middle school).

I'm the assistant for the girls team. The girls survived the first round (and I do mean survived) and play Thursday in the semi-finals. We *should* win the tournament (we are 13-1 for the season and a really good team - most of the time - HA!).

The boys lost, but they had a good season with a 10-4 record. I'll leave you with a pic of my son in mid-Andrew Wiggins move (minus the dunk, of course). I'm trying to find it on video because I want to see it again!

My Week!

What an exciting, but yet exhausting week this week has been.  It all started last Thursday when I received a phone call at about 4:30 p.m. from my step dad.  Now as soon as I saw that it was him calling, I knew something was wrong because he doesn't call at that time because he knows that I'm usually still working.  So, my stomach flips as I answer the phone.  He tells me that he is at the hospital with my mom.  Long story short, she had fallen and dislocated her shoulder.  :-(  

I left Friday right after school to go down and help take care of her (she lives about 2 1/2 hours away).  I stayed the weekend to help her out and on Sunday she started running a fever and just wasn't doing very well.  So, I decided to stay another night with her and get a sub for Monday.  I stayed Monday until about 9:00 pm and came home.  Got home at about 11:30 and by the time I got to bed and fell asleep, it was about 1:30 in the morning ( I am one that has to get sleep or I just don't function too well).  

Luckily for me, Tuesday was the 100th day of school and we were all dressing like we were 100 years old! How fitting was that since I was feeling like I was 100 years old by this time!  LOL!  Anyways, I was glad because I didn't have to decide what I was wearing.  All I had to do was put on my sweats, t-shirt, robe, slippers, glasses and grab my cane and I was good to go!  We had a great time with it and the kids looked so adorable.  Check them out:

Wednesday was the day to teach contractions.  So, in the past I have always done contraction surgery (students perform surgery on words to make them into contractions).  I used some of the pages in this cute packet that I found at Made by Common Core Corner:

Wednesday was also Kansas Day.  So, we celebrated Kansas Day by enjoying this adorable cake that one of the parents made for them.

On top of this, I was observed and evaluated by my principal.  Needless to say, by Friday I was exhausted.  I was thinking that maybe I could sleep in this morning, but unfortunately I was wide awake by 6 a.m. thinking of all the things that I need to get done at home today (like the 100 7 loads of laundry, cleaning the house, getting groceries etc).  So, my goal for today is to get it done and get in a nap this afternoon!

Our kids have been playing the connect four games in reading for quite some time now and love playing them. What we really like about them is that they are having fun playing them and we don't think they realize that they are learning as well in the process. :-) We have the one we will be using this week in reading and we are making it FREE! Looking 100 Years Old...

We celebrated 100 days of school today, and Kristi had the great idea of having our kiddos dress up. I told her it would mean that we would have to dress up too... She wasn't crazy about the idea, but when our principal suggested pajamas, robes, and curlers we went for it!

 

I mean who can say no to wearing slippers and jammies to school?

Kristi wasn't too happy that I had the morning off for my son's doctor's appointment. We had a lot of subs in the building and she said they were all looking at her like she was crazy as she hobbled down the hall in the morning before school.

 

I threatened my 13-year-old son that I was going to wear this "get-up" to the doctor's office. He looked at me with a horrified expression and said, "I am NOT sitting by you!" LOL!

 

I made it at lunch time and just being here for 1/2 day has worn me out. I feel like I could be 100 years old! :-)

 

 

Here's my kiddos. They were so cute! Check out my girl in the orange shirt. Her glasses were hilarious (I tried to let you see part of them). You can't see it, but the boy in the hat (second row) even had age spots on his arms! Also the boy in the blue shirt on the second row holding a $1...what is up with that?

The girls were especially cute...

It was a fun day, but I'm exhausted! I like my routine too much!!! ;-)

100th Day Fun!!

We will be celebrating the 100th day on Wednesday this coming week.  The kids are so excited and keep asking what all we will be doing to celebrate the 100th day.  Our Kindergarten teachers do such a great job with celebrating the 100th day that when the kids get to us, they are very excited for it and always want to know what we will be doing in 1st grade for the 100th day.
