October Currently...Treat!

Happy Friday!

I'm linking up with Farley's Currently...finally. Kristi has been beating me to it the last few months. Ha! Really the first of the month just always seemed to fall around her turn to blog, so...my turn!

The kids are at pep band and spending the night at my brother's house, so hubby and I are enjoying a nice "date night" at home--my favorite date. We are watching Love it or List it, which kind of annoys me, but I watch anyway to see how they fix the houses up...

I signed up to work a volleyball tournament tomorrow...ugh. Love watching volleyball--and being paid to run the scoreboard--but hate getting up early on Saturday to get there!

Wanting...new dishes. I've had the same dishes for I think about 15 years. They no longer go with anything in my house and well, it is just time for something new. That being said, I probably won't get new ones anytime soon. I have a hard time spending money on things I just want (and don't need).

Needing sleep. What else?

And finally, a treat for you! I've changed this to a freebie in our TPT store for the next week. Enjoy!

We've been hard at work on place value in second grade. I used this I Have...Who Has...? game to review ones and tens. After we practiced a few times, we then went on to our game that includes the hundreds

My students seem to finally "get it." I've got a little quiz set for Monday to see if we can move on...here's hoping!

June Currently and Monday Made-It!

So I'm linking up with Farley's Currently...I think I'm 340 something so maybe a little late, but oh well, the fun is in sharing. :-)

Birds chirping...unlike my husband, I don't mind sitting in the living room with the TV turned off and just listening to nature sounds. Although, the city is testing the tornado siren and it keeps interrupting the birds singing.

Stay home ALL day...hooray! I live in the country and just love those days when I don't have to go to town. My friends worry that I will become a hermit when I start teaching in this rural community next year.

Math curriculum...Saxon...different than Everyday Math so I have some studying to do. Well, that and I'm moving from 1st to 2nd grade.

Pool...uncovered it on Saturday...green=lots of work to do! :-(

Packing...My husband and I help in the youth department at our church. We are headed to Silver State Baptist Youth Camp in CO soon. I need to be packing now to make sure I have enough clothes!

Vacay Essentials...well, you can see they are all centered around spending time in my pool. I must have a pool float because I rarely actually swim (according to my kiddos). I must buy a new swimsuit this year because our neighbor cut down my privacy fence some trees. I won't even describe the condition of my old suit or admit what I would wear out to the pool last year! And I have to have sunglasses because my eyes are super-sensitive to light.

Okay, on to Monday Made-It! This was one of my favorite bloggy linky things last summer, and I just couldn't wait to jump right in!

spent last week in my new classroom. First cleaning (click here for pics) and then I started painting. I painted the shelves and the bulletin boards black.

As I painted, I became really disgusted by the yellowish counter tops and decided there had to be a solution.

Where did I turn?

Blog land, of course. I stumbled on Ladybug's Teacher Files classroom and design organization page. There I saw contact paper on desks and tables...so why not counters?

Check it out:

The picture just doesn't show the "ickiness" of the before counter, but believe me it needed something! I found this black and gray speckled contact paper at Wal-Mart and it goes perfectly with my black shelves.

I love it! Now, I'm in the middle of creating a "Teacher Toolbox" so I better get back to it. Maybe I'll be able to show you that for next week!

Have a blessed day!

A Little Late, but Currently...

So I realize I'm a few days late, but thought I'd go ahead with Farley's Currently. I think you'll understand why as you read my thoughts...

I'm still at school. It is 54 degrees outside and some parents let their kiddos stay and enjoy the weather on our playground.

My windows do face the playground which is not necessarily a good thing...especially when some kid kicks or throws a ball against the window while we are working in here.

Oh, who am I kidding, it is not helpful to my students' concentration anytime there are other classes at recess. I do not like to close my blinds so instead I threaten tell the kids at the beginning of the year that if I catch them watching recess, they will lose theirs.

I'm off the clock...our contract time ends at 3:45. Does any teacher ever leave at their contract time?
I may still be a newbie (3rd year) but I am thinking not. At least not me...not unless I have to get somewhere for my own kiddos.

And no matter how late I stay, I always leave making a mental list of all the things I have to do the next day.
Can I get an "amen"?

As you can tell, I am stalling. I have plenty of work to do and I am dragging my feet.
What can I say?
It was a lllllloooooooonnnnnnnnggggggg day!

I can't go home because I am waiting in town for a bridal shower. I live about 30 miles away.
And I still have to go to the store...ugh. I hate grocery shopping. Hey, I should have put that on my pet peeves! Really, I have told hubby that if I ever get rich I *will* hire someone to shop for me. LOL!

Needing a nap or a Coca Cola (the real thing)...enough said.

Pet Peeves:
Moodiness - I hate when someone makes me feel as if I've done something wrong or made them mad, only I know I haven't and that it is just them and their moods. I say, BE HAPPY. The Lord has blessed me too much to let the day's events determine my mood.

Germs - All who know me will get a kick out of this one. I truly am a "germaphobic."
That may be a made up word.
In fact, Friday as I stuffed one kiddo's shoe sole down into their PE shoe, I found myself saying:

"Mrs. R, will you open my milk? Oh, by the way, I licked it first.
Mrs. R, will you open my go-gurt. Oh, forgot to tell you, I tried it with my teeth first.
Mrs. R, will you fix my shoe? I know it is sweaty and smelly.
You guys need to stop asking me to do gross things that make me touch your germs!"

The kids all laughed (and so did I), but I was serious!
Then I lathered up with Germ-X. ;-)

Happy New Year and Currently!

Happy 2013! I don't know about you, but I can't even believe it!

I love the new year.

To me a new year represents a fresh start.

I'm one of those people who usually likes to sit down with a brand new notebook and write down my goals for the year. And no, I do not always reach my goals, but I enjoy the process of setting them anyway...LOL! I also like to look back at what I have accomplished and what I need to work on for the new year.

This year, I resisted the urge to crack open a new notebook and put goals on paper. Instead I have just been thinking about what I would want to write down...and it is all summed up in one little word.

So...Farley's Currently OLW - one little word - challenge was perfect for me this year...

I'm listening to the news. Does anyone else miss the news when they are working? It is not that I necessarily enjoy the news...just the fact that I can sit down and watch if I want to.

My hubby is off today and the kids spent the night with grandparents, so we are just relaxing together - LOVE!

We are back to work tomorrow for staff development. :-(

My couch...is officially broken. I may have spent too much time on it during this break! It was a hand-me-down so it is possibly older than me anyway, but yesterday when I sat down...

...I heard a crack...

...and I sank...

...nearly to the floor (maybe a slight exaggeration)...

This had nothing to do with all the Christmas goodies I enjoyed and everything to do with the age of the couch!

I brought home my work laptop and haven't even powered it up...enough said.

OLW - Discipline - This word has been the theme of our house for this school year, but I have been slacking...

If I were more disciplined, I would spend more time in God's Word.

If I were more disciplined, I would spend more time in prayer.

If I were more disciplined, I would work out more and make healthier food choices.

If I were more disciplined, I would be more organized.

If I were more disciplined...

Well, you get the idea.

Being more disciplined would take care of anything that I could write on paper...so that's it...that's my goal...

In 2013, I will be more disciplined in all areas of my life.

What's your OLW? Link up with Farley and share.

Happy New Year!

16 Years of Marriage = Appliances Dying (and Currently)

On December 14th my husband and I will celebrate 16 15 years of marital bliss. You see, there was that one year...that year we didn't like each other and we try not to talk about it much. LOL! We just praise the Lord for His mercy and grace that helped us through.

Anyway, as my anniversary approaches, I'm noticing that many of our appliances are dying a slow and painful death. Two years ago, I replaced my toaster. Last year, I replaced my clothes iron. And in the last two weeks, my blender AND my mixer have died...up in smoke, you could say, literally. I won't even talk about the condition of my bathroom towels (this is our 2nd set of towels).

I suppose I should be thankful that our things lasted so long...I've heard some people have gone through 3 blenders in the same amount of time. :-)

Anyone else experience this?

Okay, enough whining...here's my Currently. You can link up to over at Farley's.

Okay, now I really do have to pay bills. Have a great rest of the week!

May your blenders and mixers run smoothly (without the smoke)...

June Currently...and Random

Well, I'm just a bit late to Farley's Currently party, but here goes...

Okay, I'm not much a of a traveller, but I really would love to go on a Caribbean Cruise someday. Hubby is not that interested so it will probably have to be a surprise if it ever happens...

We celebrated our 15th anniversary in December and took a quick trip to Kansas City. The best part was going to the KU vs. Ohio State basketball game on the way home! Rock Chalk Jayhawk!

This summer we are going to MO to visit friends and go to Silver Dollar City. Can't wait!

Random 1

We are working on bringing COSMO (pictured below with my daughter) home. This has been in the works since the first of the year. We had some friends offer to give her Cosmo (she has been in love with horses since she was 3 years old - now she's 11). After much prayer, we began cleaning out our barn and now we just need to finish the fence...so maybe within the next couple of weeks.

I love this picture of Harley!

Random 2
Summer Weight Loss Challenge...If you don't know what I'm talking about click here. There were a couple of you interested so I will post my updates tomorrow and expect to hear from you in the comments. This is what I have to say so far...Day 3 (yesterday) was MISERY. Kristi and I decided there must be scientific proof somewhere that Day 3 of a diet is the hardest. LOL!

Have a great day!

Busy Saturday and May Currently!

At the beginning of the week, I had only one thing to do on this beautiful Saturday - Mother Daughter Luncheon at my church. It is a great time to enjoy the ladies of my family: my mom, my mother-in-law, my sister, my sister-in-law, my precious daughter, and my three nieces. We all sit together at the lunch - this year catered by McAllister's Deli. Hope they bring plenty of sweet tea! Then we get to listen as someone (changes from year to year) gives us a challenge from God's Word. Come to think of it, last time it was me who had the honor of speaking...a little scary because there are about 100 ladies in attendance, but the Lord helped me through. Anyway, I love it and am excited to go, but I now have a long list of errands to do as well.

From one thing to...well, let's see.

  • 90+ degrees here in Kansas this week means I've got to go to the pool store and make sure I have everything I need to open the pool ASAP!
  •
  • Hubby has tilled up the garden and it is begging for plants!
  •
  • My sweet daughter is long overdue for a haircut.
  •
  • Wal-Mart for sunglasses for my firsties. Kristi and I totally "stole" Erin's cute 10 day countdown idea and quickly put it together after school last night. Check it out at First with Franklin.

Okay, enough about my busy day ahead...

It's time again for Farley's Currently! Wow - those last ones are tough. Pageant title and platform...had me stumped for awhile, but I came up with something. See below:

Have a great day!

Crystal's Currently...

Okay, so I have always wanted to do one of these... Here goes!

So my Super Power is not the most creative, but I tried!

Rock Chalk Jayhawk!!! Go KU! I am a huge KU basketball fan so I've been excited for the game all day! :-)

Head over to Oh' Boy 4th Grade if you want to link up.
