#2getherwearebetter July - Room to Improve

Hi there!

I'm linking up with Ashley and Angie for the July #2getherwearebetter linky.

I love the theme this month!

I'm always looking to improve my classroom and my instruction! I cannot wait to read everyone else's posts to see what I can learn.

This summer my main focus is on math. I got permission to abandon our math series (Saxon--I've also used Everyday Math in the past) and create my own long-range math plan built on units--yes, units. I am beyond excited to stop the jumping around nonsense!

I know spiral review is important, and I feel I have plenty of that in my classroom using Mountain Math and what I call "HOTSHOTS" that I've created. More on those soon--they are SOOOOO close to being listed on TPT.

So...I started by making my 2015-2016 Math Overview. I looked at several samples, considered the math standards, and our schedule. I really liked Amy's overview over at Step into 2nd Grade with Mrs. Lemons. Mine is very similar to hers. Our nine weeks are a little "weird" because of our condensed calendar, but you can see I just listed the date of when each unit would start. I'm sure after this year, I will need to do some tweaking.

From there, I am working on compiling resources and making my unit plans. Here's my plans for teaching addition strategies:

You'll notice several items are from Amy's Addition Strategies pack. I actually purchased both her addition and subtraction packs and already have them prepped for next year. Yay, me! You'll also see the homework card games from Amanda Madden. I used these last year and loved them in my new style of homework (read about that here). I also included the resources on Brainpopjr.com, any Mimio lessons I have that could be used, and hopefully will add much more in that section!

So how can you help me?

#2getherwearebetter after all!

What are your must-have resources for math units?

Like I said, I'm on the hunt!

P.S. Did you notice our "buttons" in the top right have been updated? You can now click to find me on Twitter and Instagram! We have the best blog designer ever. She helps us out with the tweaking for a very reasonable price! Thanks, Barb!

P.S.S. Also, we added the TPT widget if you want to visit our store.

P.S.S.S. (Is there such a thing?) Oh, and I finally added something to our PRODUCTS page. Be sure to check it out! I promise I'm working on the FREEBIES page too!
